Canon OC Rules and FAQ

Canon OC Rules and FAQ

As OCs and even canon-based OCs are starting to becoming more accepted on DW RP, we have decided that we are willing to give accepting them a shot. HOWEVER, we do have some strict rules for what we will accept.

  1. The canon must have a rich enough world design, history and storyline, as well as be a setting where having player-made characters are part of the canon's design. Examples of this include tabletop RP games, MMOs, and yes, generic units like those found in Disgaea.

  2. The character cannot be "The Chosen One." Some canons, such as FFXIV, have certain storylines for adventurers that make that particular character seem incredibly important to major NPCs and be a star in big storyline events. Your OC cannot be that one important character.

  3. The character may not have had any close relationships (such as friendship, family relationship, rivalry, etc.) with any canon characters as part of their history. Even if someone is playing one of those main characters and would be willing to accept.

    For example:

You could apply for a prinny that could be a worker in the Overlord's castle. However, even though the prinny likely knows of or has even been ordered around by Etna or Laharl, Etna and Laharl would not know that prinny.

However, if players wish to create characters with connections to one another, they are free to do so, as long as all parties involved are in agreement.

  4. The character and their history must be conceivable and believable in the context of their canon.

We greatly encourage anyone considering applying for a canon OC to contact the mods prior to beginning an application, to discuss your application plans.

Also, if you feel unsure about whether your chosen canon would meet the requirements or have any other questions, contact us or comment below! Keep in mind that there's no way for us to know all potential appable canons and we have limited time to research ourselves, so please help us out by being prepared with several good information sources for the canon and be ready to answer questions!
